Wine from Loire Valley in France

I stop by a liquor shop to get fine wine for a Christmas party. I suddenly saw the name "Loire" on the glass surface of a wine bottle. I immediately recalled the beginning of Episode 13 of Reign Season 2, in which the name was mentioned by King Francis II; he suggests his Queen Mary a trip to Loire Valley for their new beginning. He says, "There is an enclave of the Loire Valley. The hills there have the lushest orchards and vineyards in the realm. The poet Marot calls it the Eden of France." Since then, I've remembered "Loire Valley" for its beautiful nature, gardens, and vineyards.

I couldn't but grab that wine, as I felt it was a serendipitous finding of Francis in an unexpected place. I am still in a state of depression over his passing, although I was well aware of his fate in real history. It is hard to accept the death of such a beloved character. While I still miss the King and Frary, the wine from Loire Valley brings me a little consolation.    

미드 "Reign"에 대한 단상-애증

6월달에 넷플릭스에서 우연히 낚인이후 시즌1은 일주일만에, 시즌2는 이틀만에 다 끝냈다. 10월초에 시즌3이 시작하면서 매주 프란시스(프랑스의 왕 프랑소와 2세)와 메리(스코틀랜드의 여왕이자 프랑스의 왕비)가 예전의 부부 관계를 회복하고 잘 되기만을 바라다가 결국은 역사대로 프란시스 죽는거 보고는 너무너무 비통하고 허무해서 한동안 정신을 못차렸다.

허무함을 극복하고자 시즌1 또는 시즌2 초반의 행복했던 시간을 돌려보니 어느정도 위안이 되었다. 잠시나마 프란시스 죽음을 잊는데 어느정도 도움이 되었음.

그런데 이제는 예전의 행복한 시간 장면들-프란시스와 메리가 결혼하기 전 연애하던 시절, 결혼식, 결혼직후 성이 공격 당하기 전까지의 스윗했던 순간들-을 다시 보면은 분노가 치밀어 오르며 한숨만 푹푹 나온다. 어짜피 그래봤자 프란시스는 스틱스강 건너간지 오래고 메리는 스코틀랜드를 위해 또다른 남편을 찾아야 하는 상황이 달라질리 없기 때문에, 오히려 현실의 쓰라림만 커져간다. "레인" 드라마 생각만 하면 이별, 허무, 슬픔만 가득 몰려오기에 이젠 차라리 생각을 안하는 쪽으로 노력하는 중. 

"레인"은 나에게 애증의 드라마. 열심히 일하는 배우들, 스탭, 작가들을 위해 여전히 애정과 지지를 보내지만, 동시에 메리와 프란시스를 결국은 비극적 결말로 끝내버려서 너무나도 맘이 아프고 밉다 (이건  Executive Producer인 로리 맥카시의 책임). 프란시스와 메리의 역대 최강 케미스트리 때문에 낚여서 보기 시작했는데, 이젠 그게 사라졌으니 뭔가 중심 기둥이 뽑혀나간 느낌. 그동안 많은 애정을 가지고 봤었기 때문에 앞으로도 여전히 볼 예정이지만, 이 극복 안되는 공허함과 쓰라린 맘이 가시진 않을 듯.

Reign: Empty and Vain

While exploring historical dramas on Netflix, I found "Reign" purely by accident. I had no knowledge of that TV show and just watched without high expectation for fun. However, I was completely hooked and infatuated with the adorable couple, Frary (the shipping name of Francis and Mary). It did not take much time to finish the first two seasons; one week for S1 and just two days for S2. Indeed, it was a binge watching, which rarely happens in my life. Since then, I have been waiting for the next season with a desperate hope for Frary reunion. After all the gloomy and dire mess-up in S2, I believed that they deserved happiness for awhile even if the King would be doomed to death sometime in the future.  

Now, I am learning that the King is dying at the start of S3--more unbearably, he will die SOON. All my hope and expectation ends up in a letdown. Frary seems to have been created just to be ruined. The Frary relationship reached highpoint at the moment of their wedding and honeymoon. Since this short culmination, however, they have been never allowed to progress toward further happiness. Their phenomenal epic love is to be over and I'm not sure whether I'm ready to face it. 

I feel empty. My waiting is in vain.

As this incomplete embroidery work suggests, my hope for Frary's eternal union is now becoming a hopeless daydream.
